Martha O' Brien is a Limerick-born mezzo-soprano studying under Sinead Campbell Wallace in the Conservatory of Music, DIT, where she has just received a First Class Honors BMus degree, specialising in Vocal Pedagogy. In Limerick, Martha studied under Maire Keary Scanlon. Locally, she had been a member of the County Limerick Youth Choir, Murroe Church Choir, Limerick Musical Society and CentreStage Youth Theatre for a number of years. Since her move to Dublin, she has been involved in productions with Lyric Opera and the Rathmines & Rathgar Musical Society as well as being a member of the DIT Chamber Choir, Choral Society and Opera Ensemble throughout her studies in the Conservatory, most recently playing the role of Cherubino in DIT's production of Le nozze di Figaro. Martha has been a part of the RTE Chorus for a number of performances including Lord Of The Rings at the O2 Arena, Howard Shore in the National Concert Hall and the annual Carols at Christmas televised special. She has worked as a chorister in St. Audoen's Church. This year Martha was the winner of both the Showboat and Dermot Troy competitions in DIT as well as being highly commended in both the R&R and Mezzo Solo competitions in the Feis Ceoil. This coming year, Martha will be involved in Dublin Opera Studio's production of Suor Angelica playing the Mistress of Novices as well as Opera Theatre Company's national tour of Don Giovanni, the libretto of which has been written by Roddy Doyle. Martha has recently been announced as one of Boyne Music Festival's Young Artists of 2016. Martha is very much looking forward to working on Dublin School of Music's fantastic Summer Camp programme this year and in developing the programme for our inaugural children and adults choirs starting September 2016.
